MaizeChek
Program Description
MaizeChek is designed as a calibration program for the maize moisture meters in use during the late summer harvest. The accuracy of the meters is paramount for both sellers and buyers so LabChek coordinates an independent programme that provides confidence to testing labs and to stakeholders within the industry that both product weights and moisture levels are being assessed by equipment that has been accurately calibrated.
Sample Description
Between 4 and 6 fresh maize samples are presented in each of 1 or 2 rounds at the start of the harvesting season. The samples cover the moisture range from ~14%, up to ~27%. This allows the users to test the accuracy of both the weight and moisture readings of their meters over the widest possible range, assisting to ensure linear accuracy.
Schedule
The MaizeChek program is normally offered around April of each year. One round is offered initially, with a second round being offered as a result of seasonal demand.
Reporting
Participants receive a report showing the accuracy of their moisture meter readings (for both weight and moisture) as compared with laboratory derived analytical reference values. The reports also provide an overall summary of the industry spread of results.
